Tarafa ibn Al-Abd, the murdered young man, was born in Al-Ahsa desert in c .
86 BH/538 AD .
He was a major pre-Islamic poet .
His poetry abounds in wise sayings, so that his verses became widespread .
He was a brave warrior, and a spendthrift who wasted his money .
His life fluctuated between courage and generosity on the one hand and libertine pleasure on the other .
He squandered all his wealth, so his family and friends abandoned him, and he reproached them in his poetry .
Seeking to become rich, he landed at the court of Amr ibn Hind, and soon became his drinking companion .
However, he attacked Amr in some satirical verses .
Amr intended mischief .
He sent Tarafa with his uncle, the poet Al-Mutalammis, to the governor of Ahsa, giving each of them a sealed letter addressed to the governor .
In these letters he gave orders to the governor to kill them .
Growing very suspicious of the king's intent, Al-Mutalammis realized the treacherous missive and escaped .
Warned of the fate awaiting him, Tarafa proudly replied, "The king dares not do that with me .
" He was killed in Al-Ahsa in c .
60 BH/564 AD at the age of 26 as a maximum .
